Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

At the Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, our Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging supports students beginning from the time they are prospective applicants throughout their studies at Harvard, and ultimately until they join our celebrated alumni community as newly graduated PhD and master’s degree recipients. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment in Harvard Griffin GSAS where students of all identities and backgrounds can achieve their goals and reach their highest potential.  

We do this by working in partnership with faculty and staff to recruit and foster a diverse pool of applicants, reduce bias in admissions, and provide support to students. Our recruitment and outreach efforts include pipeline programs, cross-institutional partnerships, and our annual spring recruitment weekend for admitted students. Our team distributes materials on best practices for holistic admissions and facilitates conversations on this topic for members of admissions committees.

Once students join the Harvard Griffin GSAS community, an important part of student support involves advising students one-on-one; supporting the student affinity groups; hosting academic, professional development, and community-building events; and overseeing the work of the diversity and inclusion fellows, who contribute to building community and belonging on campus.  

Our work doesn’t stop with just student support. We also work with departments and programs through our training and education efforts to assist them in fostering a more inclusive learning environment where students can grow and succeed. As the work of our office evolves to meet the ever-changing needs of our students, we invite you to connect and partner with us in our mutual goals of advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
