USEFUL LINKS

The Harvard Griffin GSAS Student-Parents Group aims to enrich the academic experience of and provide visibility to all Harvard Griffin GSAS parents and caregivers. A robust support system for student-parents creates a caring and nurturing environment for the entire Harvard community. It encourages and makes possible a healthy work-life balance for student-parents and attracts a diverse, well-rounded, and mature pool of students.

The Student-Parents Organization provides a supportive community for fellow students with children by hosting free events with tangible benefits and opportunities to meet other parents. Programs include:

  • clothing/toy exchanges
  • child-friendly events with the Student Center Fellows
  • free annual photo shoot with the Harvard Griffin GSAS Photography Society
  • Families Brunch, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, co-hosted with the Harvard Griffin GSAS, welcomes students and their children to graduate school
  • panels and work-life balance sessions to provide parenting advice and support

The group also engages in advocacy for student-parent interests. They meet regularly with the Harvard Griffin GSAS administration to seek the implementation of family-friendly policies in a broad range of advocacy areas. They regularly gather data from fellow student-parents through surveys and the FAS Registrar's Office to better understand the needs of members. The group is constantly looking for ways to build a stronger community and better advocate for student-parents.

You can connect with the group through their Engage organization or their private Facebook group.

The Harvard Student Parents and Caregiver Network works to engage Harvard community members and affiliates from across all schools of the University to support Harvard student parents and caregivers.

The HSPCN has several objectives:

  • Community: Enrich the experience of parents and caregivers by facilitating a supportive community where student parents and caregivers can connect, share experiences, and provide emotional support to one another to increase a sense of belonging
  • Programming: Develop University-wide events, workshops, and activities that are inclusive and accessible to the diverse parent and caregiver community
  • Knowledge: Manage and maintain an accessible knowledge base of information, resources, recommendations, and best practices to assist and guide student parents and caregivers to manage their time and responsibilities more effectively and efficiently
  • Advocacy: Engage in advocacy for the identification and implementation of University policies that are consistent across all schools that address the unique challenges and concerns of student parents and caregivers
