Racial Bias and Harassment Concerns

Dear GSAS Students,

As reports of anti-Asian harassment have increased in the press, GSAS is receiving alarming reports of students from certain Asian ethnic groups feeling targeted or concerned about their future at Harvard because of their racial background. If you are feeling unsafe or concerned about racial or ethnic bias or harassment of any kind, or if you worry about what the future will hold in this regard, you do not have to deal with it alone—GSAS resources are here to support you. Please reach out to Sheila Thomas, dean for academic programs and diversity, or Danielle Farrell, director of student services, for support.

I also want to reaffirm GSAS’s commitment to creating an inclusive community free from harassment and discrimination. Every member of our community—students, faculty, and staff—deserves to thrive, and as a consequence, harassment of any kind has no place here.

With all best wishes,

Emma Dench
Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
McLean Professor of Ancient and Modern History and of the Classics
