Five Fall Career Events Students Shouldn’t Miss

Make progress on your career goals at the Mignone Center for Career Success.

After a busy summer full of travel, research, and hopefully some fun and relaxation, welcome back! As the air begins to cool and we settle into the fall, you may be thinking about what your next steps beyond Harvard might be. Whether you’re embarking on the faculty job market, exploring opportunities beyond academia, or still figuring out what comes next, fall is a great time to make meaningful progress on your career goals.

The Mignone Center for Career Success (MCS) offers programs throughout the semester designed specifically for Harvard Griffin GSAS students. Here are five to put on your calendar—plus ongoing opportunities to get support throughout your search.

  1. Navigating the Teaching-Centered Faculty Job Market | September 22

Interested in faculty careers where teaching is central to the role? Hear from recent Harvard Griffin GSAS alumni about what teaching-centered colleges and universities look for and get advice on applications, interviews, and beginning a new faculty position.

  2. The View from the Search Committee | October 13

Experienced faculty from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences will share perspectives on what candidates can do to strengthen their chances in an unpredictable and highly competitive faculty and postdoctoral job market.

  3. The Hidden Job Market: Networking to Unlock Opportunities | October 15

Networking doesn’t have to feel mysterious. This interactive workshop offers practical strategies for building professional connections and using those relationships to uncover opportunities that may not surface through traditional job searching alone.

  4. Evaluating & Negotiating Offers Beyond Academia | November 9

Whether an offer is already in hand or you’re preparing for the possibility, learn how to evaluate compensation packages, understand what may be negotiable, and approach negotiation with greater confidence.

  5. Designing Your Life after Harvard | December 7

Want to think more creatively about what comes next after Harvard? This half-day, hands-on workshop uses design thinking to help you imagine different possibilities for your future, explore career options, prototype potential paths, make decisions, and leverage the Harvard network.
