Romance Languages and Literatures
Our community celebrates the humanities at the same time as it reimagines the importance of humanistic study in the global age.
Faculty members are experts, not only in language but in other areas as well, allowing you to take courses in different departments. You can craft your own path in the Romance languages and literatures, as other students have done, in areas like medieval studies, poetics, feminist theory, urban studies, performance studies, gender studies, and philosophy.
Examples of student theses and dissertations include “Affecting Lives: The Politics of Biography in Modern Italy, (1850-1881),” “Declining (the) Subject: Immunity and the Crisis of Masculine Selfhood in Modern France (1870-2000),” and “The 1824 Confederation of the Equator and Cultural Production in Brazil.”
Graduates have secured faculty and research positions at prestigious institutions such as Columbia University, New York University Abu Dhabi, Ecole Internationale Bilingue in France, and the Universita Di Parma in Italy. Others have gone on to careers in strategic consulting, research, and communications.
