How the Arts Infused and Informed the Kennedy Presidency

Join Sofía Becerra-Licha, AM '10, lead archivist at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as she guides us through the behind-the-scenes work that went into the creation of a new permanent exhibit, "Art and Ideals: President John F. Kennedy," which opened in 2022 as a capstone to the Center’s 50th anniversary season. Located in the heart of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which serves as both the nation’s performing arts center and a living memorial, this immersive exhibit uses the latest in digital technology to explore how the arts infused and informed the Kennedy presidency. 

Following the speaking program and exhibit tour, enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres over conversations with fellow alumni and friends!

Sofía Becerra-Licha (AM ’10)

Sofía Becerra-Licha, AM ‘10, is the lead archivist at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She joined the Kennedy Center in 2019 to establish and head the Archives department, which is responsible for preserving and promoting access to the administrative and performance history of the Center as well as its affiliates, the National Symphony Orchestra and Washington National Opera. The launch of the Kennedy Center Archives was part of a broader organizational effort to update and expand the Kennedy Center’s function as a living memorial, leading to the creation of a new permanent exhibit, “Art and Ideals: President John F. Kennedy.” Opening in September 2022 as a capstone to the Kennedy Center’s 50th anniversary season, this immersive exhibit uses the latest in digital technology to explore how the arts infused and informed the Kennedy presidency.  

Becerra-Licha’s professional interests include performing arts archives, community and post-custodial archival practices, and DEIAB for libraries and archives. She has been active in the Society of American Archivists, New England Archivists, the Music Library Association, and the New England Music Library Association in various capacities. She holds an MSLS with a concentration in archives and records management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an AM in music with a concentration in ethnomusicology from Harvard’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and a BA with a double major in music and Spanish from Agnes Scott College.  


This event is open to all Harvard alumni and their registered guests.
Registration is required for this event. Space is limited.

This event is an external rental presented in coordination with the Kennedy Center Campus Rentals Office and is not produced by the Kennedy Center.
