Update on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear GSAS Students,

Given the increase in Coronavirus cases in the United States, the University has been providing regular updates to the Harvard community, which I urge you to read. I’d like to acknowledge the anxiety and sense of uncertainty that many of us are feeling and encourage everyone to read and follow instructions accordingly.

The most recent messages included information about the University’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) website, which is an excellent resource for tips to keep yourself healthy, what to do if you are returning from a high-risk area, frequently asked questions, and more. I encourage you to review the information on this web page and, at a minimum, review the guidance on practicing good hygiene. Harvard will link to the latest information from here, so I encourage you to bookmark the page for easy reference later.

Many of you are traveling or preparing to travel in the course of your academic research. The University Coronavirus page contains important information about outbound travel restrictions, visiting or returning to campus, and domestic travel that you should review.

Harvard University Health Services is encouraging anyone with flu-like symptoms to call 617-495-5711 (24/7) for advice. They will help you determine whether to get assessment or treatment.

While the University currently continues to operate with minimal disruption, it is important to stay informed about this issue, and I hope you will take a few minutes to review the information I’ve shared above. Please take good care of yourselves and one another.

With all best wishes,

Emma Dench
Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
McLean Professor of Ancient and Modern History and of the Classics
