Find Your Center: We Appreciate You!

Check out these Graduate Student Appreciation Month giveaways, events, and activities

Each April, universities nationwide mark Graduate Student Appreciation Week. Started in 1993 by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students, the celebration recognizes the hard work, dedication, and achievements of those pursuing an advanced degree.

Harvard Griffin GSAS extends that recognition throughout the entire month of April with giveaways, wellness opportunities, community gatherings, professional development, and lots and lots of tasty snacks.

Students can learn more and find a complete schedule of events and activities on Engage. To get you started, here’s a quick list of some of the month’s remaining highlights:

  • Ask Her Anything
Are you navigating or considering the non-academic job market? Join Caroline Rende, associate director of Graduate Career Exploration, on April 17 for Ask Me Anything, a virtual space to ask questions about job and internship searching, exploration and networking, career transitions, and more. And be sure to visit Engage for the full slate of April workshops at the Mignone Center for Career Success.

  • Grab a Sweet Treat
Pick up one of those aforementioned tasty snacks and hang out with other Harvard Griffin GSAS students at a Swag, Sweets, and Support event throughout the month. You’ll find them in Allston on April 18 and Longwood on April 22. Students are also invited to Longwood Coffee & Cookies on April 28 and Coffee, Cookies, and Games in Cambridge on May 1 (bonus day!).

  • Get a Pro Photo
Want to look sharp on your LinkedIn, social media accounts, or website? Get your picture taken by a professional photographer absolutely free of charge. Sign up in advance to claim a spot at Longwood on April 16 or Cambridge on April 17.  While you’re there, get an express LinkedIn profile review from Evan Walsh (scroll down on page) of the Career Navigator team.

  • Grow and Gather
Stop by the Student Center at Harvard Griffin GSAS in Cambridge on April 25 for Grow & Gather: An Herb Planting Social to plant, pot, and take home something fresh and tasty. While you do, you can connect with other students, share self-care tips, and discuss your favorite recipes.

  • Be Brave
Looking to build your communication and conflict management skills, especially in professional settings like advising relationships, research and teaching teams, collaborations, and leadership roles? Sign up for a lunch and learn workshop on April 30 and get essential skills for navigating difficult conversations. Register today on Engage. Spots are limited!
