TIANWANG LIU, PhD '22, economics, is a scientist, governance leader, and business strategist specializing in board governance, AI-driven strategy, and enterprise decision-making. She is a data scientist at Airbnb and previously was an applied scientist at Uber, where her work spanned causal inference, algorithmic modeling, and expansion at global scale. An NACD-certified board director and Stanford Directors’ College affiliate, she is an active investor with Band of Angels and brings a blend of technical depth, economic rigor, and governance discipline to corporate and nonprofit organizations.

Liu serves as board president of Harvard W3D (Women in Defense, Diplomacy, and Development), a nonprofit dedicated to connecting and cultivating leaders working toward sustainable peace, where she sets strategic vision and leads governance for the organization. She has convened and moderated conversations with global leaders across academia, industry, and policy, and previously served as director of strategic partnerships at Harvard Alumni for Global Development. She holds a PhD in economics from Harvard University and graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University, where she was named a Merrill Presidential Scholar. Her research has been published in leading economics journals, and she serves as a referee for peer-reviewed publications. She is a member of the American Economic Association, the Econometric Society, Economists for Peace and Security, and the Women’s Foreign Policy Group.
