Nigel Gould-Davies
NIGEL GOULD-DAVIES, PhD ’03, government, is editor of strategic survey and senior fellow for Russia and Eurasia at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. For 2021-2022, he also holds a fellowship at the Wilson Center in Washington, DC. Prior to joining the IISS in 2020, Nigel taught and conducted research on international relations in Asia. From 2010–2014, he held senior government relations roles in the energy industry in central and southeast Asia. From 2000–2010, he served in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where his roles included head of the Economic Section in Moscow, ambassador to Belarus, and project director in the Policy Planning Unit. From 1996–2000, he taught politics and international relations at Oxford University. He is author of Tectonic Politics: Global Political Risk in an Age of Transformation (Brookings, 2019). He also holds a BA (Hons) and MPhil from the University of Oxford.
