The GSAS Action Coalition is a graduate student organization that is committed to taking action on issues of social justice and environmental policy. We connect graduate students across different disciplines within GSAS into subgroups based on issues of immediate concern that interest them. As a larger network, we meet at the start of each semester to discuss and select a focal issue (e.g., 2018 midterm elections, criminal justice reform in MA, or environmental policy), plan actions for that month (average 3 per month), and students can partake in actions based on their preferred time commitment and interest. We are also set up as an informational network organized by skill and interest to facilitate rapid response to matters arising within the current political climate. Examples of actions include (but are not limited to): organizing op-ed workshops for writing in hometown and local papers, attending local rallies, and convening an interdisciplinary working group for expert advocacy on topical issues.
