Don van Deventer, PhD ’77, business economics, is chairman, founder, and CEO of the Kamakura Corporation, an international risk management software and information company. The firm has clients in 44 countries in financial services, fund management, and the governmental sector. Most of the world’s leading central banks and bank regulators are clients of the firm. Prior to founding Kamakura in 1990, Don was senior vice president in the Tokyo investment banking department of Shearson Lehman Hutton, treasurer for First Interstate Bancorp in Los Angeles, and a vice president in the risk management department of Security Pacific National Bank. van Deventer has published four books on risk management, including Advanced Financial Risk Management (with Kenji Imai and Mark Mesler). He is the immediate past chair of the Graduate School Alumni Association.
